Four things propane users should do for winter preparation

Aren’t we already in winter? In short, yes, but in Pennsylvania and surrounding states, winter comes and goes like rain in the summer. One day it’s snowing, the next day it’s in the mid-forties. With snow frequently in the upcoming forecast, we thought it would be a good idea to share a few thoughts on propane for your safety and convenience.

Make a clear path to your propane tank

For routine tank checks, or in the event of an emergency, a clear path to your outdoor tank could be essential to getting the help you need as a propane user. Make sure there is a large, clear path to your tank(s). Keep in mind, a propane tank is twice the size (or more) of a car.

Service your tank

We try to emphasize the importance of annual or semi-annual tank maintenance and cleaning. Over time, sludge and sediment can build within your tank causing malfunctions, inefficiency, and safety hazards.

Clear off your tank

Where possible, it’s best to keep your tank clear of snow and debris. Create a marker for where your tank is, and make sure that marker is placed higher than your tank. Use a broom to remove snow and ice from your propane tank.

Check your fuel levels often

The most frequent type of call we receive is for a tank refill. If you haven’t already done so, make some time this month go check your tank levels. When roughly 1/3 tank remains, give us a call for a refill. This will give us enough time to schedule a refill before you run out. remember, it’s better to schedule a little early than to run out of fuel in the dead of winter. Keep the tank level in mind when you call- our customer service representatives will ask for it when scheduling a refill.
